Helen Lowe so far and where my experiences came from :
I was lucky enough to have a pony at the early age of 7 yrs, unfortunately the ponies were rarely safe or trained and thats were my experience starts ! I spent a lot of years doing the normal fun things which included hunting, jumping and eventing even the prince philip cup games. It took some years to become interested in dressage approximately 15 years ago whilst working for a private business man who owned several dressage horses, i realised what all the fuss was about.
In 1994 i started to look for a good moving stallion to put my hannoverian mare too, At that time it was a struggled so decided I to buy a nice young colt of my own. That was when the obsession with quality horses started. I managed to buy a yearling colt by Weltmeyer, but really didnt know about the bloodline at that time Weltmeyer was fairly unknown. The new colt was called Westhills Windfall I purchased him from BWBS breeder Griselda Haughton Brown from Chipping Norton. Before he came to Westhills the colt was presentated at the BWBS annual show and to my delight was awarded Reserve Youngstock Champion (kindly shown by Edward Evans), I then realised i had bought a special horse. Unfortunately Windfall x Weltmeyer only covered for 2 seasons the most successful of his progeny was Westhills Wreann ridden and owned by Becky James. Windfall tragically died at the very early age of 5 years but it started me off and i then bought Longdean Westminster he was 2 yrs old a bit smaller but i never looked back !!
In the time that i waited for Longdean Westminster to get to a rideable age i bought another stallion which i learnt a bit about dressage with (he was a throughbred) the judges didnt love him so he turned to eventing a where he qualified for the Novice Championships and also again to my astonishment won his section when presented at AES stallion grading.
After disappointment with dressage on a throughbred i bought a dressage horse from Serena and David Pincus he was 16.3hh 10yrs called Sprout he was graded Elementary new a bit about changes and could do something which at the time i thought was piaffe !! I continued my training with Ian Woodhead and trained Sprout to PSG and in my first attempt i got the the Nationals in 1996 at Adv Med level and won the Northern A Rider Championship. My quest to become better thou was drawing me abroad so in April 1997 i went to Christine Stuckleberger and Herr Georg Wahl in Switzerland and i took Sprout with me. This was a roller coaster as i had not worked for somebody for a few years, i was the only english person and my German was limited. But i learnt German I had daily lessons with Herr Wahl, i rode many Grand prix horses went to a lot of International shows i came back 8 months later, then went back several times to help Christine at shows with the Stallions.
Westminster was a 5 yr old when i got back, so i registered him and started training i went to Ian Woodhead, and Serena Pincus. When Will got to 7 yrs old he was virtually PSG but i needed help so i asked Carl Hester and despite the 120 mile trip i went to Carl regularly what a fantastically talented person who i learnt so much from Westminster went to Grand Prix at 10yrs old. But as i became busier with the stud I asked Richard Davison to help me he is 40 mins away an amazing trainer, he reined me in and helped me ride the Grand Prix.
I am still learning all horses are different and i have learnt from every person i have been with and every horse i have ridden.
